SET Sustainability Forum: A Shift Towards Climate Credibility

The SET Sustainability Forum emphasized the importance of credible climate actions in the capital markets, focusing on robust governance to bolster Thailand’s Net Zero transition and deepen investor trust. The event, themed “Claims, Consequences, and Credibility: Capital Market for Climate Action,” highlighted a paradigm shift where verifiable climate actions significantly influence corporate competitiveness and access to long-term capital.

In a keynote address, Dr. Pailin Chuchottaworn stressed that Net Zero targets cannot be achieved without solid corporate governance. He argued that pledges must be integral to business strategies, ensuring accountability and mitigating greenwashing risks that damage investor confidence. Transparent mechanisms linking climate goals to operational practices are essential for establishing credibility.

SET’s Dr. Soraphol Tulayasathien announced a three-year strategy to enhance Thailand’s capital market ecosystem. By improving data infrastructure through ESG platforms and developing a national carbon market, SET aims to align climatic disclosures with global standards to build confidence among investors. Panels at the forum explored regulatory approaches and the role of credible sustainability data in capital allocation decisions.
