ASEAN-ISE aims to create a sustainable investment ecosystem by standardizing ESG metrics, combating greenwashing, and increasing SME participation, enhancing ASEAN’s attractiveness for global capital and sustainability efforts.

## Building a Sustainable Investment Ecosystem

ASEAN-ISE is committed to creating a trustworthy investment ecosystem by standardizing ESG metrics across exchanges, combating greenwashing, and enhancing SME participation to attract global capital and ensure long-term sustainability. The initiative marks a significant transformation in Southeast Asia’s capital markets, where fund managers increasingly prioritize ESG compliance in their decision-making process.

## Strengthening Regional Standards

Launched via collaboration between Bursa Malaysia, IDX, SET, and SGX in February 2024, ASEAN-ISE aims to position ASEAN as a leading sustainable investment hub. The initiative addresses existing disparities in ESG reporting and harmonizes criteria across member states, creating a unified framework with comparable metrics. This alignment encourages companies to adopt responsible practices while providing clearer insights for investors.

## Navigating Challenges Ahead

Despite its ambitions, ASEAN-ISE must confront challenges like greenwashing, the SME gap, and inconsistent governance across nations. Addressing these issues requires robust verification mechanisms, capacity-building for smaller businesses, and coherence in regulatory mandates. As capital markets transition, establishing credible and comprehensive sustainability practices will be crucial for attracting investment and fostering trust within the region.
