In 2024, the Taliban requested the Australian government to close the Afghan embassy, a demand that has been met with resistance. The embassy does not align with the Taliban and remains committed to defending human rights. Recently, the Australian government urged the embassy to stop its consular services and announced plans for complete closure by June.
Importantly, Australia does not officially recognize the Taliban, making any direct diplomatic relations impossible.
